I-Lyn has over 10 years of experience in all aspects of policy development, implementation and evaluation through a variety of roles within the Western Australian government. She has led the development and implementation of policies on issues such as climate change science in Western Australia, biosecurity funding mechanisms and policy design. Her policy skills have been recognised as the winner of the 2016 Australian Biosecurity Award (Government) for policy development in invasive species. Born and raised in the island of Penang, she swam competitively as a teenager and represented Malaysia in several international competitions.
I-Lyn first came to Perth, Australia as a Year 12 student and was awarded the Dux of her college at the completion of her studies. She then graduated with first class honours in Environmental Engineering and also holds a science degree specialising in Physics. She started her working life as an operational meteorologist in Singapore, following professional training and qualification in Wellington, New Zealand.
I-Lyn is now settled in Perth with her husband and son. In her free time, she loves playing the piano and spending time with her family.
